Oiva Health Partners with JST Healthcare Solutions to Bring Digital Symptom-based Triage to its Platform

The new integration with Smart Symptom Check combines certified care needs assessment with Oiva Health’s digital clinic, helping patients reach the right care faster while giving healthcare professionals more time for patient care.

Tampere, Finland – 20.10.2026 – Oiva Health today announced the integration of Smart Symptom Check, an EU MDR Class IIa-certified care needs assessment, into its digital clinic and patient portal. Developed in partnership with JST Healthcare Solutions, the integration enables patients to describe their symptoms online whenever it suits them, while healthcare professionals receive a medically validated summary and urgency assessment before the first consultation begins.

The result is a seamless digital care experience. Patients remain in the same application throughout the entire journey, while healthcare professionals continue working in the familiar Oiva Clinic interface. By reducing manual triage, documentation and unnecessary phone calls, the solution helps healthcare organizations improve efficiency while allowing professionals to spend more time on patient care.

Smart Symptom Check is one of Europe’s first care needs assessment solutions to achieve EU MDR Class IIa medical device certification. Based on Finnish Current Care Guidelines, it supports more than 1,300 clinical assessments, recognizes over 30,000 symptom expressions, and provides structured patient summaries, urgency recommendations and suggested ICD-10 and ICPC-2 codes to support clinical decision-making.

The integrated solution is currently being piloted by four healthcare organizations, including Finnish occupational healthcare provider Lappica. During the first weeks after launch, the service handled nearly 700 patient contacts, reducing professionals’ phone workload while improving patient routing and accessibility.

“Digital triage has made contacts smoother and improved the routing of patients to the right service. With the pilot, the need for phone work has decreased, allowing professionals to focus their working time more effectively on patient care,” says Petteri Heikki, ICT-manager, Lappica Occupational Health.

The partnership between Oiva Health and JST Healthcare Solutions combines certified clinical intelligence with a proven digital clinic platform. In the next development phase, assessment results will automatically guide patients to the most appropriate care channel. Whether appointment booking, callback, chat or self-care, based on each healthcare provider’s own service model.

“Healthcare professionals should spend their time caring for patients—not collecting the same information over and over again. By embedding Smart Symptom Check directly into Oiva Clinic, we’re making it easier for patients to access the right care while ensuring professionals have the right information before the conversation even begins,” says Arto Leppisaari, Head of Oiva Clinic.

“Healthcare providers need solutions that improve both clinical quality and operational efficiency. Together with Oiva Health, we can deliver certified care needs assessment as part of an existing digital care platform—without introducing additional systems for either patients or professionals,” says Johannes Kallio, Chief Medical Officer, JST Healthcare Solutions.
